2017 Best of Design and Decor

Hello friends!

Today is the last day of my 2017 favorites! I am most excited about this post, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Today we will be focusing on my favorite interior design and decor moments of 2017. This past year was a big one for me in this department as I moved into a new apartment in August, and my personal design style shifted a bit from 2016 to 2017.

I hope that you enjoy looking back on these moments as much as I do!

DIY Projects:

-Honeycomb Shelves

Hexagon Shelves (Use this one)

This project made my Pinterest dreams come true. As I said in my “Welcome to Apt. 3315” post, I went home for the weekend and manipulated my parents into helping me build these shelves. They turned out so much better than I could have ever imagined, and they are definitely the statement piece in my living room.

-Scrape Art

ScrapeArt

This DIY art project I discovered by watching the Youtube channel Mr. Kate. This project was super easy, and took less than a day to complete. I love abstract art, and this turned out perfectly in my opinion! Also, it’s always a great thing when people think your DIY projects are expensive pieces from trendy decor stores!

-My Vanity

Vanity

This project was the one that made me seem the craziest, and most extreme. The apartment complex that I moved into provides a desk and a chair for every resident. However, I decided that the desk and chair weren’t cute enough for me, so I replaced them with this vanity. I love sitting while I’m doing my makeup, and this is also the place where I hang out and get the most work done. I am currently sitting at this vanity while writing this post! I love the mixed wood tones, and the mixed metals that all of these pieces bring to this space. No, I didn’t build any of these pieces, but I had to find them and style them together, so I consider this a DIY project as well!

Decor Finds:

Albus Dumbledore Quotes

DumbledoreQuotes

Albus Dumbledore is one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter series, and I love getting to wake up every morning and read these quotes. They are the perfect decor item to remind me of the kind of person that I want to be every single day. The quotes are:

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

“We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.”

“It is our choices that show us what we truly are far more than our abilities.”

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”

-Fuzzy Blankets

I am a sucker for anything cozy. See my Best of Fashion and Best of Lifestyle and you’ll see fuzzy sweaters and socks all over the place. Blankets are my favorite way to stay warm. I usually spend all of my time on the couch with one of these blankets. The white one is from Homegoods, and the grey one is from Target!

Makeup Brush Holder

This is actually a pencil holder from Target. Since my vanity is a mixture of beauty and office supplies, I thought this was the perfect way to store my makeup brushes and writing utensils!

Gold Oversized Throw Pillows

Another fun fact about me: I have a throw pillow obsession. There are four on my bed, and four on our couch. These are my favorite pillows that I have ever found. They are a pale gold with metallic thread woven through the entire pillow. These pillows aren’t just gorgeous, they are also so comfortable to nap on in the afternoons!

-My Plant Child!

Herman the Snake Plant is probably my favorite decor item of 2017. I knew that I wanted a snake plant for my bedroom, but I couldn’t find any online or in any stores throughout the entire summer. On the day before I moved in to my new apartment, my parents and I went to Kroger. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot I saw three or four of these plants sitting out front. I proceeded to scream and scare my parents to death. The plants  were $12.99, and huge for their price. This situation is the exact reason that I believe in magic!

Books:

A Hot Glue Gun Mess

Make Yourself At Home

books

These are my two favorite design books of 2017! A Hot Glue Gun Mess is filled with a ton of DIY projects, and some hilarious short stories. Make Yourself at Home is more informative on the technicalities of design. It included guest authors to talk about their spaces, and even has some cool pages on colors and how our brains process various colors in spaces!

Youtube Channel:

Mr. Kate

This Youtube channel is truly all that I watched over the summer. Kate and Joey do amazing work, and they usually post one video a week. My favorite series of theirs is “OMG We Bought A House”. This series goes through the process of Kate and Joey buying their first home and making it their dream house. There is something so positive and optimistic about their channel. I can’t stop smiling the entire time that I’m watching one of their videos. I definitely recommend checking them out!

Pinterest Inspiration:

Below are some of my favorite interior design pins of 2017. I have bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and some plant pins!

Here is the link to my Pinterest so that you can see everything that inspires me! I am constantly pinning, and most of it is interior design focused!

I hope that you all have enjoyed this post and all of my 2017 favorites. I can’t wait to see what my 2018 favorites will be, and how my style will change over the next year.

Thank you so much for joining me, and I hope you’ll come back for my next post! I am going to try to post at least once a week from now on. If you have any ideas, or any posts that you want to see from me, please let me know in the comments!

You all are wonderful!
